Cyprus is one of the easiest, cheapest short breaks in the Eastern Mediterranean: sunshine most of the year, short flights from much of Europe and the Middle East, and prices well below Western Europe. Here is how to do a long weekend right — without overspending.
Cyprus is a budget-friendly island. Off-season (November–March) return flights from many European hubs run €60–150, climbing to €150–300 in summer and over holidays. A three-day getaway including flights, a mid-range hotel and a rental car is realistic at €350–600 per person — noticeably less than a comparable trip to Greece or Italy.
Midweek (Tuesday–Wednesday) is almost always cheaper than weekends. The best-value months are November, January and February: mild weather for sightseeing, low prices and small crowds. If you want beach time, May and October offer the best balance of price and weather. Avoid school holidays and peak August, when fares roughly double.
Larnaca sits on the east coast with a relaxed seafront promenade, beaches right in town and the island's busiest airport — ideal for a short, low-effort weekend. Paphos in the west is prettier, with a UNESCO archaeological park, sea caves and a calmer vibe, but you'll want a car to enjoy it. For a two-to-three-day break, choose Larnaca. For four days or more, or a scenery-focused trip, pick Paphos — or combine both with a rental car.
Cyprus is small but spread out, and public transport is thin. If you plan to see more than one town, a car is almost essential — and it's among the cheapest in Europe (from €20–30/day off-season). Note: Cyprus drives on the left, British-style. Book online in advance; the airport counter is always pricier.
A three-star hotel in Larnaca or Paphos costs €50–90/night off-season and €100–160 in summer. Holiday apartments are great value for families. Tip: hotels just outside the center, paired with the car you've rented, can cut tens of percent off the bill without sacrificing comfort.
Cyprus is cheap by Western-European standards. A meal at a local taverna runs €12–20; coffee €3; entry to an archaeological site €4–8; fuel for a small car on a touring day about €15. All told, a budget traveler can get by on €40–60/day on top of flights and lodging.
Even for a short hop, travel insurance is cheap and medical care abroad is expensive without it. And to avoid roaming charges, a local Cyprus eSIM costs just a few dollars and easily covers a weekend.
