Every traveler asks the same 7 questions before the UAE — but the answer changes depending on where you fly from. Your passport, the law that protects you, your currency and your airport are all different. This guide detects your location and shows the answer that's right for you.

📍 Detecting where you're flying from… If it's off, every answer below is still accurate — it just defaults to a US traveler.

1. Do I need a visa? Is my passport OK?

🛂 Tailored to you
Most Western passports get visa-on-arrival (30–90 days) in the UAE. Check the current rule for your passport before you fly.

UAE rules vary by passport — usually visa-on-arrival or exemption. Always confirm with the airline/authority before flying, and keep a passport valid 6 months.

2. When is it cheapest to fly — and from where?

✈️ Your departure airport
Flights from major US hubs to Dubai, direct or one stop.

Best (and priciest) weather: November–March. Summer (June–September) is extremely hot but far cheaper. Check the live price to Dubai instead of guessing.

3. How much will it cost — in my currency?

💰 In your money
Budget travel ~$60–95/day, comfortable ~$175–290/day (excl. flight).

Dubai uses the UAE dirham (AED). The range is enormous — from cheap street food to extreme luxury. Most of your spend is flight and stay — which is exactly where comparing pays off.

4. If my flight is delayed or cancelled — what am I owed?

⚖️ The law that covers you
No EU261 departing Dubai. US DOT has no fixed cash rule for delays, but you're owed rebooking or a full refund if the airline cancels.

A service like AirHelp checks for free whether you're owed money (e.g. on a European connecting leg) and only takes a fee if you win.

📶 Staying connected in the UAE
Grab a the UAE eSIM before you fly and activate on landing — no roaming shock.

A the UAE eSIM costs a few dollars a week and gives fast data for maps, navigation and ride apps. Sort it before you leave — land connected.

6. Do I need travel insurance?

🛡️ Your coverage
US health insurance won't cover you in the UAE. Travel insurance is essential.

Dubai is safe, but private care is very expensive. Make sure you have medical, evacuation, and desert/water-sport cover if relevant.

7. What are the must-sees and must-dos?

The Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall, a sunset desert safari, Palm Jumeirah, the gold and spice souks of Old Dubai, and an Abu Dhabi day trip. Book tickets for the popular sites ahead. GetYourGuide and Klook cover the Burj Khalifa, desert safari, water parks and an Abu Dhabi day trip.

Bonus: power plug

🔌 The adapter you need
The UAE is 230V, sockets Type G. US plugs (A/B) need an adapter — and check your device supports 230V.
