Every traveler asks the same 7 questions before Czechia — but the answer changes depending on where you fly from. Your passport, the law that protects you, your currency and your airport are all different. This guide detects your location and shows the answer that's right for you. The basics are shared; the details are personalized.

📍 Detecting where you're flying from… If it's off, every answer below is still accurate — it just defaults to a US traveler.

💡 Compare and book directly with the supplier:

1. Do I need a visa? Is my passport OK?

🛂 Tailored to you
US passport holders get 90 days visa-free in the Schengen area. ETIAS is coming — check before you fly.

The Schengen area allows up to 90 days in any 180. An ETIAS authorization — a short, cheap online form (not a visa) — is coming; check whether it's live before you go, and beware copycat sites.

2. When is it cheapest to fly — and from where?

✈️ Your departure airport
Flights from major US hubs to Prague, direct or one stop.

Peak (and priciest) season is June–September. Best value is April–May and September–October — great weather, far lower fares. A day or two of date flexibility saves a lot. Check the live price to Prague instead of guessing.

3. How much will it cost — in my currency?

💰 In your money
Budget travel ~$50–75/day, comfortable ~$120–185/day (excl. flight).

Note: Prague uses the Czech koruna (CZK), not the euro — withdraw some local cash. Most of your spend is flight and stay — which is exactly where comparing pays off.

4. If my flight is delayed or cancelled — what am I owed?

⚖️ The law that covers you
Departing Prague, EU261 covers you — up to €600 for long delays/cancellations on any airline. The US-departing leg has no fixed DOT cash rule.

This is one of the most under-claimed rights. A service like AirHelp checks for free whether you're owed money and only takes a fee if you win.

5. Will my phone work there? (eSIM)

📶 Staying connected in Czechia
Grab a Czechia eSIM before you fly and activate on landing.

A Europe eSIM costs a few dollars a week and gives fast data for maps, navigation and ride apps. Sort it before you leave — land connected.

6. Do I need travel insurance?

🛡️ Your coverage
US health insurance won't cover you in Czechia. Travel insurance is essential.

Make sure you have medical, evacuation, and theft/lost-belongings cover — especially in busy tourist areas.

7. What are the must-sees and must-dos?

The Old Town Square and astronomical clock, Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, the Jewish Quarter and excellent Czech beer. Book tickets for the popular sites ahead — it saves queues and money. GetYourGuide is especially strong across Europe and covers most experiences.

Bonus: power plug

🔌 The adapter you need
Czechia is 230V, sockets C/F. US plugs (A/B) need an adapter — and check your device supports 230V.

More on Prague & Czechia

Prague is one of Europe's most beautiful cities: the Old Town Square and astronomical clock, Charles Bridge, Prague Castle and the Jewish Quarter. Arrive via Václav Havel (PRG) — reach the city by bus+metro or a pre-booked transfer. Note the currency is the Czech koruna (CZK), not the euro. Don't forget your Schengen visa/ETIAS, a Czechia eSIM and travel insurance. Czech beer is among the best and cheapest anywhere.
